That depends on who needs to be encouraged. For what you're doing, I don't
think this kind of expertise should be demanded/required of any user. Put
another way, it should just work. Simplistically speaking:

* I have an old braille device and not much in the way of spare cash.
* I go to the local electronics shop in whatever country I happen to live in.
* I buy whatever USB to serial adapter cable it has and hook it up.
* I have no technical expertise and expect it to just work.
