hi Simon, I'm using an old Alva Saterlite using usb to serial 
successfully but found that I had to use brltty 6.4 rather than later 
versions - still got to try again with later versions.

Could try running brltty from command line rather than launching from NVDA.

If I get a few free minutes I'll try again with brltty 6.6 and report back.
