Hi Paul,

When you have the windows service running, nvda can detect brltty.
I guess with the portable version you can't do that or you need to run it without the -n option.

Greetings,
Simon

Hi,

I am using a portable version of brltty and a HIMS note taker over bluetooth serial. Since this is only braille display I have, I too can't get the USB to work. Perhaps try connection over bluetooth? Lastly, brltty is not listed in the options in the latest nvda. I hope this helps.

Hello Paul,

Downgrading NVDA to such a very old version isn't an option.
The person who would need this workaround works on Windows 11 so running the latest NVDA would be a requirement.
But it seems that also brltty seems not to be able to find the braille device in the first place.
Which braille display are you using?
I tried with the Handy Tech Active Star 40.
As far as i know this is a USB HID device.
Though i also have older braille devices which i might try which have a serial to USB converter.

Greetings,
Simon

I think that brltty does work on window but not with nvda and jaws. As far as I know brltty 6.4 is used in narrators. Lastly I use brltty 6.6 frequently with window CMD console. My suggestion is use older nvda version such as 2022. Hope it helps.

Hi.

None of our active devs really use Windows on a regular basis.
I wonder if it was a good idea to port to that platform, since that
raises expectations on the user side.
