Ubuntu runs brltty just fine. Support for the b.note in brltty is new. You'd need at least brltty-6.8, preferrably 6.9.1, in order to use a b.note. I'm not sure which release of brltty your versin of Ubuntu is using.

For the b.note you'd use brltty's eu (EuroBraille) driver. You need to configure your b.note as follows:

   For this key table to work correctly, ensure that Keyboard USB-HID-A is set to Send to Screen Reader.
   This setting can be found within the USB section of the device's internal settings menu.
