It hasn't actually been removed. It's just been moved. Although the default is
for the feature to be disabled, you can go into the prefences menu and enable
it. It's called "Autorepeat" in the menu. Remember to save your settings after
the change to make it persistent.

Well ... the setting is there for those who want it, but the default is off.

After you enable Autorepeat, you'll find that you can configure both the
initial delay and the rate of the feature. You can also turn on/off whether
horizontal autorepeat works.

The functionality was moved from the driver into the core so that all the
drivers, rather than just a few of them, could use it, and so that it'd work
the same way for all of them. When we did that, we had to decide what the
default should be. Our decision was to default it to off so that users of
displays who didn't have it before wouldn't be caught by surprise.

I'm sorry that you've gone so long without this feature, i.e. for several
years, especially since it's really been there all along. I guess we didn't
announce the change well enough when it was made.
