[BRLTTY] usb to serial problems

That looks like the problem. Something is going wrong when BRLTTY attempts to
write to the serial port.

To be absolutely sure it is writing to the correct device, can you try -d
serial:/dev/ttyUSB1 on the command line?

If, as I suspect, it is writing to the correct device, there may be a kernel
issue.
