Could you please install libicu and then rebuild brltty. Check with ldd to be 
sure that libicu is linked in. Then retest to see if it works better.

If libicu is available then brltty uses the formal Unicode definitions to 
determine where breaks can be made. If it isn't then the fallback is to use 
whitespace.
