I use brltty on Red Hat Enterprise 4, 5, and 6 including 6.3.
I am not experiencing these pauses you describe. What hardware are you using for a Braille display?

I use CentOS, which is also RedHat, it is actually identical but free.
My collegues helped me install it, bbotth 5 and 6.
I have trouble with RHEL6, from time to time the braille device freezes and it take from up to a couple of seconds to about half a minute to be revived. I use the brltty which is in the CentOS distribution, that's 4.1. I would like to know if other people have the same experience.
