Well - brltty is software.

If you're blind, and cannot see the screen, you essentially have two choices. 
For speech, you can enable TalkBack by going to Settings -> Accessibility. For 
braille, the best alternative for now is to install BrailleBack from the Google 
Play Store. At the moment, BrailleBack only supports Bluetooth, and only 
implements the following brltty drivers:

   bm  Baum
   eu  EuroBraille
   fs  FreedomScientific
   hw  HumanWare
   pm  Papenmeier
   vo  Voyager (which includes Harpo's BraillePen)
