A7C2 is an unassigned Unicode character, so I wouldn't recommend using it.

A7, on the other hand, indeed is the section sign. The en-nabcc text table 
represents it as dots 357, so, in other words, as what we might call a lower s. 
I have no idea why you were seeing it as all eight dots before.
