[BRLTTY] Wrong Serial Cable?

I think I might have gotten the wrong serial cable to test out my old alva display. I see braille coming up on the unit when turned on, but no communication is happening with Brltty.
This is what I got:
Your Cable Store 6 Foot DB9 9 Pin Serial Port Cable Female / Female RS232  
This unit was working when I used it last year. I can't find the cable that I had with it then, so I had to order a new one.
