[BRLTTY] can u bail me out again?

I untarred 5.6 in /usr/local/brltty56 then did the four steps:
autogen, config, make, make install, and all went well.
But I was not root or sudoing.
When 5.6 would not work I did make uninstall.

what do you reccomend I do as root to get 5.6 going now.
Those 5.6 directories are still there.
5.3.1 is working fine, but I would love to try 5.6.
Will they not interfere with each other?
I can ssh in with my ipad and fix my goofs if I lose braille.
