that's where /usr/lib gets hardcoded. And we have the same with
LIBBRAILLE_ROOT, ESPEAK_NG_ROOT, ESPEAK_ROOT, SWIFT_ROOT, THETA_ROOT.

Dave, what do you think of dropping the -L flag when FOO_ROOT = /usr?
(which is very most probably already in the compiler search directories)
