[BRLTTY] FreedomBox and braille

Hello all,

While I'm not yet ready to work on braille support in FreedomBox, I
thought I'd post amessage about it here, since the topic has come up
recently.

First of all, I don't have a braille display, so unless I can get one, I
suppose that's going to make development more difficult. Does BRLTTY
offer anything that would help me test braille support without having a
braille display? Though I'm partially sighted and don't normally use
braille, I do know grade 1 and some grade 2, so reading the braille
output won't be an issue. Still, a user interface that uses braille
output is new territory for me; developing one will be a learning
experience.

As for Windows, the two possible back-ends I'm considering are BRLTTY
and libbraille. Does BRLTTY for Windows require Cygwin? Do any newer
braille displays support automatic detection, or will the user always
need to choose a display from the list and specify the serial port to
which the display is connected?

That's all I have for now. Thanks for any help you can provide.
