Would it be possible to configure your system so that a core dump is
produced when brltty crashes ?

Perhaps something like
CFLAGS="-g -O0" ./configure [your usual options]
is enough ?

Then make and make install, and then manually replace the installed,
stripped binary with the unstripped one located in the Programs/
directory.
