It should in theory, yes.  I personally have never tried it with a
Braillino, but I have done similarily with a TSI PowerBraille in the
past.  One thing I found back then was that not all
USB-to-serial adaptors did work.  Some chips were apparently not fully
emulating the serial port, which led to problems with that particular
braille device.  So what you could try is to find some different brand
of USB-to-serial adaptor and see if it works with that.

Of course, that is just a shot in the dark, since the serial interface
of the Braillino might as well be "uncomplicated" and just work with
every adaptor you can find.  Its just that I have already seen serial
braille devices which did not work with particular adaptors.
