I disagree.

I use the time binding all the time.  It is quick, it gets away without 
a second key press, and it works with speech while the continuous time 
display doesn't (and probably shouldn't).

And only a few displays do map all the available functions.  While 
display keys are scarce indeed, this is more true on some displays than 
others. The great thing about the text file format for key bindings is 
that you can modify it locally as you wish if you prefer something else 
than the default.
