I'm assuming you mean that the brailleLite is saying this. The default for 
brltty is to just check for USB devices, and a USB to serial adapter is a 
serial - not a USB - device in this case. Edit /etc/brltty.conf, and set 
braille-device to serial:ttyUSB0.
