VEry useful post. Thank you very much for this tip. Yes, build in
Talkback gestures especially swiping from left to right and from right
to left are very useful. Brltty for Android is very useful screen reader
and I also love it very much. It is very kind from Dave and others, that
they are developing so complex assystive technology in their spare time.
Very important aspect of using Brltty is, that unfortunately, thanks to
necessary power management and CPU cycles, speech initialisation is
relatively slow so when you would want to use system resource intensive
Android app such as Create your own apps, you will get much faster
responsiveness while using Braille device than if you will use Speech,
even Espeak from Retzoc, which is very probably The fastest speech
engines for Android will do not make any magic while working with
Talkback and active speech engine. And also Shine Screen reader for
blind will not do magic.
Only Braille device, which do not require so much CPU cycles to drive
and it do not depend on build in power management of Android like build
in sound chip, which Android kernel must fast enable or disable to save
chip and battery.
Java API is slow, it would be better, if GOogle developers would use
Native C code instead like Microsoft WIndows, which uses C++ dlls to
communicate between speech engines and Windows speech applications,
which are using Microsoft Speech API.
Dalvig machine will be always much more slower than compiled C app to
machine code.
So Android 7.0 and newer is using some more clever approach.
